“Under this sign we conquer': The Continued Iconography of the Australasian League Flag”

 QVMAG holds in its collection one of the most important flags in Australian flag history. The Australasian league flag of 1851 is the first flag or banner to feature the Southern Cross in its 'natural formation' - ie. How it appears in the night sky. Much debate has taken place over whether this flag is the origin of today's Australian flag.

This paper argues that the Australasian flag is indeed the origin of the current Australian flag, and presents the evidence for this argument.
